Anti-choice ideologues have been working for months to hijack health care reform and use it to undermine — and eliminate — private health insurance coverage for abortion. If the Nelson amendment becomes law, it would result in the most severe new restriction on private insurance coverage for abortion in 35 years. Even worse, lawmakers are considering cutting an anti-choice side deal with Representative Bart Stupak which wouldeliminate all private insurance coverage for abortion.
As you know, the Secretary of State certified Gregory Thompson’s ballot initiative on October 20, 2009. On October 29, Planned Parenthood Federation of America filed suit on behalf of three Missouri residents challenging the SOS summary statement and the Auditor’s fiscal statement.
This measure would change our constitution to expand thousands of laws including tax, criminal and property laws, in unforeseen ways, and inevitably clog up our court system with 100’s of lawsuits on the backs of Missouri taxpayers.
This measure would also ban common forms of birth control that are used by 95% of women at some point in their life and even ban certain types of infertility treatments.
